Our family was completely prepared for a denial of a service dog as we know there is high demand & another location had a minimum 2yr. wait list. We were not prepared in how we were denied, as when Canine Companions phoned, they blamed the individual for not advocating strongly enough for themselves (others answered too often), DURING A GROUP PHONE CALL. This individual is not extroverted & is very self aware of a speech impediment, yet they answered all questions asked & the other household members added info when it seemed CC wanted clarification. (Our family is VERY aware of self-advocacy as anyone with a chronic disability has to be a self-advocate). CC had requested a GROUP CALL for all individuals that may be training assistants (extensive application process for anyone that may assist in the care of the dog). This reason for denial was emotionally devastating & personally, I feel very insensitive and unprofessional. When questioned about "you said this was to be a group call" the person pivoted & provided another reason, which would've been completely satisfactory if this had been the initial reason given. The damage was already done. Nov/Dec. and I couldn't shake how wrong it all felt. There definitely needs to be more training at Canine Companions and I don't mean for the dogs.

Canine Companies is a wonderful company. My granddaughter has to have a service dog . They are here to get paired with their dog this week, along with 6 other families. The training that the handlers put into these dogs is unbelievable. We just did an outing with the dogs to a business mall . The dogs stayed focused on the person they were paired with. I loved watching them all in action this morning. I would recommend them to anyone who needs one . Mind you, it takes up to 2 yrs before you can begin getting paired with a dog. But it's worth it.
Update: We had to go back up to get recertification. Now we're good for 1 yr.
Love these people who take care of all the dogs. There were more families there to get paired with their dog.

I've been a volunteer with this nonprofit for over ten years. It has an important mission, providing highly trained service dogs free of charge to people with disabilities. It's a wonderful place to volunteer and they create a feeling of family for all involved.

This is an amazing organization with a phenomenal staff! During my Team Training I was made to feel at home, cared for, fed delicious food, and made lasting friendships. The gift of independence that they give to people with disabilities is amazing! The time and attention they give to the dogs, the applicants, the puppy raisers, the graduates...is more than I ever expected! I cannot say enough good things about this organization or this campus!

We had the rare good fortune to receive our beloved Danielle back in 2009; as an OTR I was chosen to receive the 2 week training on campus and every moment was filled with love and learning, challenges and support & lots of laughter. Delightful, inspiring trainers and staff each step of the way- and full support as needed over the years. Dani gave so much to so many; it’s impossible to encompass the depth of acceptance, joy and grace she gifted every soul in her presence, every day of every week of her 12 years with us and she sought out each as so important to her! Our lives will never be the same. We are grateful, especially to each angel at CCI and all those who support them..
