I went here on a school field trip to see Hamilton. This was such a pretty place. It was unfortunate that they didn't accept cash but the show and everything else made up for it. The show was amazing, the area was clean, and the view was magnificent. Would definitely come again.

I was thrilled to finally see Hamilton live. The televised production is fun to watch, but seeing it IRL was utterly fantastic. I'm a theater nerd and have seen many, many live shows from Tulsa, OK to NYC to Dubai and I can honestly say that I have never been so profoundly moved as I was while watching this performance (Sunday, Oct. 20 2024). Everybody was at the top of their game but my favorite character portrayal was that of King George. The actor had such a presence and personality - I wish he'd had more stage time.
I was surprised when my eyes welled up at the start of the show, so many emotions were washing over me... I continued to shed tears throughout the show and after it was over. I was emotionally drained, in a good way. I even teared up a bit while purchasing my Hamilton mug after the show.
I am hoping to see it again this season, with a friend this time.

Such a great place to see a play! So many theater options, from Broadway to local shows. Musicals, drama and comedy. Symphony is wonderful as well. Decent places nearby for a drink or bite and several of the venues host private functions as well. Always a stimulating artistic adventure!

The center is pretty cool! Beautiful theaters! Came to see the Swan Lake and had wonderful experience

Major cultural institution! The layout is pretty cool-a large covered indoor/outdoor plaza leading to several theaters. Parking right on site. As must be expected, drinks are overpriced and mediocre. But it’s the theater.

My husband and I saw A Christmas Carol on December 22nd at 7pm. It was packed and the show was AMAZING! The cast was just fantastic and the special effects made it kinda scary actually so we were impressed.

Of course, you are not attending a public show unless a few people in the audience get confused and think they are the main event...This was the case for us as two teenagers behind us were talking the whole entire show.

That did not spoil it though as the show was still a lot of fun and a cup of wine helped the immersion.

This was one of those nights where it was in the negatives so it was very cold on our way out. We also had to go to the 7th floor of the parking garage despite getting there 45 minutes early (there are multiple plays going on at once so keep that in mind).

Love DCPA, BUT Jesus Christ Superstar and Hamilton 2024 just didn't deliver!

When did musicals become so static to reutilize the same stage set throughout and entire 2+hr performance?!?

I won't rant about the re-envisioning of Jesus Christ Superstar because the original wasn't anything more than a 1960s psychedelic trip...! But heck, a few prop changes in Hamilton--at least those contextualizing estate vs parliament vs tavern scenes--would've have contextualized better & been more visually stimulating. Think of the props and set changes for Phantom and Ms. Saigon (with helicopter on stage)... and think of the sheer resources and tech of 21st century? So why the staticity? Furthermore, IF staticity was necessary for focus on the rapped narrative alone then why-oh-why weren't the lead characters' diction better (like street rappers) AND mic volumes better amplified! *Growing up hearing street rap and good diction this just didn't deliver unfortunately. Is raw talent/vocal technique & project/diction not a thing anymore with the entertainment industry's reliance on over-compensated/over-produced studio sounds in recorded and live contexts?

Hamilton's dance choreographies were enjoyable and the whole slow-motion thing still novel--though between Vegas acts and Broadway that too will soon become common place.

*I think Disney's televised version was comparatively better, and the static stage set aspect not as noticeable!

**So in wrapping up, by far THE BEST and MOST INGENIOUS and culturally impactful show I've seen this year at DCPA is SHEN YU!
