We went to see Mannheim Steamroller Christmas tonight. It was amazing. We are so blessed in DSM to have our civic center. The acoustics are fabulous and the venue attracts world-class acts. Bravo Des Moines Civic Center!

I absolutely love the Civic Center! I've been to multiple shows here and always have a great experience. The seating is excellent and the sound quality is consistently good. While the restrooms can have lines, they move quickly thanks to plenty of stalls. If you attend multiple shows, I highly recommend buying the souvenir cup—it’s the only cup allowed in the theater, and you can bring it back for future shows. Overall, a fantastic venue!

I've never walked out in the middle of anything before attending the Harry Potter and the Halfblood Prince Orchestra Concert today. I went in hoping to hear orchestral performances of the movie, but actually ended up spending $100 per ticket to sit bunched in watching the movie with shorts bursts of orchestral music that I couldn't hear because the woman behind me was cackling and talking through the whole thing. I knew it was going to be a bad experience as soon as the conductor came on stage and encouraged everyone in the theater to laugh and boo and make noise because, as he put it, "we want to be able to hear you from up here". Why would anyone want to attend a performance by an orchestra where the audience makes so much noise that you can't hear the music? I literally can't believe they're charging so much for these events.

I was sitting in the last seat of row Q for joe bonamassas and could not see the back up singers at all and only the bottom 1/2 of the drummer and the keyboard player only when leaning to my left in front of my brother next to me. He also could not see the back up singers. You should require bands to set up so that all can see or not sell the end seats. Very disappointing for an expensive seat.

What a treat. Kudos to team that organized the Hamilton show💯 The show was sold out and the venue was all packed but it was pretty easy to get to our seats. The acoustics of the theater are pretty good too. Looking forward to coming back for the amazing line up if shows they have coming up. Be sure to book well in advance though!!!

This is a wonderful space to experience the arts! I've seen two shows here since January and regardless of the craft everything has been enjoyable. Yes, due to the acts themselves but I believe in the way the auditorium was built as well. The building is handicap-accessible. There are multiple entry points. And the concession stand has alcohol that you can bring in to the performances so long as you purchase the $3 souvenir cup. This place is so well-organized with ushers everywhere that it's impossible to get lost.
