Not happy,, I dopted Tank, payed the 65$ but gave 100$ I miss him he loved his handler not me when chris came to check on him. Tank ignored me and picked chris.. so I knew he would not be mine. So adopting is not for me.

They let their employee Kara post using their name on social media condemning bringing in cats. She says cats should be outside rather than in the shelter because “Mildred down the street feeds it 3x a day”. Heartless and uncaring employee who is too stupid to realize that cats are invasive and affect our whole ecosystem (or actually she does realize but she said she doesn’t care and then proceeded to make a logical fallacy about not being able to critique society bc you participate in it)She is publicly posting to promote putting cats outside which is ILLEGAL and you are a government owned shelter… get rid of that business she doesn’t need to be around animals especially since she is so uneducated and refuses to do research.

I know it’s probably because you can’t afford it, because people don’t support more often, but you shouldn’t kill these poor babies. You should keep the place clean and healthy and sterile so more people will come in to adopt. Then you will get the support needed to take care of the facility better, build more space, and keep the animals alive as best as you can! Try harder, for the sake of their lives and your humanity.

I volunteered at a cat spay & neuter clinic. Amy runs the Estill County Animal Control and she is so hard working. She had her children there working with all of us and everyone worked so well together. There was a team of amazing women from Woodstock Animal Foundation near Louisville - the vet and vet techs - volunteers.
Our Estill County Judge D Watson came to visit and brought us all lunch (- I was told he does this every time there is a clinic). He spent time speaking to each volunteer, then he personally thanked each volunteer and quietly praised Amy for the good job she is doing. I was glad that Estill County had a representative who was actually involved in the clinic on a personal basis. He spoke about our need for a new building - he was correct by the way because the Estill County Animal Control building is not in great shape, it's very rustic.
I really enjoyed the day, wished I could have done more and I know I'm going back there to volunteer again. Do yourself a real kindness and go over to meet Amy, maybe even adopt a shelter pet - new best friend. Sign up to take your cats to a spay & neuter clinic.

Sent home a kitten with us that had bacterial pneumonia, ear mites, and other health conditions. Told us it just had some sniffles and would be fine. All of this has now transfered to our other cat and the vet is saying they can't guarantee she will live. Called and the best answer I got was "too bad". Zero screening of their animals, zero health care for their animals, zero accountability

Wanted to adopt a dog, saw one wanted while they were live streaming on Facebook via the Montgomery Co shelter. I called ask asked if he was still available but NO I can't adopt that dog because a rescue was there to take him and they would not stop the rescue and let the me take him for a forever home.
One has to wonder how much this shelter is getting out of this for them to choose this rescue over the general public to give the dog too.
Rescues are impossible to adopt from, nothing more than people who adopt dogs with a 501c3 to take in donations. They jack up the rates 3 times the rate of local animal shelter, ask more questions than to join the CIA, and are generally people with a nasty and/or creepy disposition.

This shelter struggles with a high-intake and low adoption rate, and as such are forced, as a Government facility and not a rescue, to put down innocent pets. They post up adoptable animals on various websites, including Petfinder and Facebook. They truly do the best they can with the limited resources they have, the only reason I can't rate it higher is because they are unfortunately a kill facility. They are in contact with several rescues and work hard to get their animals adopted out into good homes.

Well, where do i begin? My gf and i checked out this place because they have advertised on facebook how they were overran with kittens and all 13 would be put down..so we arrive and walk in and literally no one had greeted us or offered to help in anyway. We find the cat room and its DISGUSTING. Cats and kittens are piled in cages with barely any room to move. They're covered in old food and feces. We finally find someone to help, they seemed unable to answer ANY question we had. We asked about a certain kitty and he just throws it at us. Anyway, we pick our kitty, head to sign adoption papers and whatnot. (This is my favorite part...) a 9 year old boy (no adult around whatsoever) hands us a paper saying underno circumstances will we bring the baby back.
We get home, and the litter we picked him from had 4 or 5 babies who couldnt eat solid food. So we bottle fed him for a week or so. I come home from work one night and hes completely unresponsive. We rush him to the vet early the next morning. They we astonished at his condition. That babies away from their mother that long needs to be tube fed. Our little baby didn't make it...id hate to think of what happened to all the other babies. Long story short, this place has no regard for life. Even the dogs were living in unsanitary conditions. Whatever you do, do not support this place. It didn't deserve the one star i rated it.
