I saw a shared post on Facebook stating that the shelter was severely overcrowded and in dire need of supplies. I chose to go down and donate cash instead of supplies so they could put it where they need it most. We have 2 dogs and a cat already, but my wife and I took a walk around while there and ended up adopting this handsome boy❤️! So many precious animals waiting for their forever home, I had a difficult time adopting only one ?

Please do not go here. I thought it was the Humane Society. It is NOT. I spoke to the director of the St. Lucie County Humane Society today and she said the split in 2019 because this place has gone down hill so far. I adopted a wonderful sweet 2 year old calico cat 4 weeks ago. She was not spayed and I thought that was odd but they gave me a certificate for a local vet with a good reputation. I just got a call from the vet, as our sweet cat was spayed today, and she has feline aids. She has been 100% indoors since we got her. We are devastated. We have another beloved cat that has now been exposed to this. We will find a way to keep our new girl and give her the best life possible. It is a sin that the Fort Pierce Animal Adoption Center adopts animals who are extremely ill. Our entire family is devastated. And no one answers the phone at this place. I'm going to drive there now and I have no doubt they will not care at all. Please do not go there. Go to the Humane Society.

I volunteer here and foster and I also adopted a puppy here. It may not be perfect but most of the dogs are super sweet and just require, love, patience, time, and some basic training. A lot of the dogs have been stuck inside their kennels 24/7. It’s like a prison cell. It’s ran by the city and doesn’t get enough funding. The dogs just need a chance to calm down and feel safe. The cats also need love and support. Changes do need to be made but that change begins with each of us. Right now as I type this those poor animals are there scared because of the storm. We as a community need to do better. I am fostering another dog during the storm. It’s pretty sad that the community couldn’t get them out of there at least during the storm. We all live here and need to step up, donate, fundraise, volunteer, foster, and adopt.

I got a chocolate Labrador that they called Jada. We renamed her Luna. She is the best dog I have ever had. They may bark when you go down the hall looking at them but she never barked when I brought her home. Super sweet girl, great with kids and other dogs. Never needed to use a leash she always walked right next to me. She was 5 years old when I got her and if you give them a good life they can live long after their life expectancy ❤️?

Please note the cost for a small dog of $300 and the cost of a large dog from $100-$200 is still far less than the cost of buying a dog from a breeder. Not only are you helping a dog by adopting but the cost includes all of their shots, an implant tracker, and spaying or neutering. If you are looking for a low cost clinic nearby for follow up vet visits and shots for future years check out paws in action.

!!BEWARE!! Doesn't test their animals for diseases, adopts out kittens with feline leukemia (and god knows what else) as a surprise for the owners to discover when they go to have their baby fixed. And when they are legally informed by the vets who discover this and the customer, they say they won't call any other customers to tell them they possibly have a sick animal. So much for owners with other cats in the house. Disgusting practice.

Doesn't perform any medical screenings on their animals and adopts out sick cats. When told that they probably adopted out at least a whole litter of cats with feline leukemia and their current cats are probably all sick too because they share everything from food/water bowls to litter, they say they won't be informing other customers who possibly adopted a sick cat to get tested and offered to put down our sick cat... no. Apparently this practice is sicker than the damn animals.
