If you like seeing things from the past, things like what our grandparents, great grandparents, and even great great grandparents used to wear and use, than this is the place for you. Things like how the women curled their hair, an old fashioned projector, washer and dryer machine, jars, cans, utensils, dolls, clothes, saddles, and the list keeps going. There are also tons of pictures to look through, as well. You could literally spend hours reading about everything there. Great opportunity to teach our children an appreciation for what we have now.
Now, while you are at this amazing museum, you should check out the old Pine Creek school 🏫 house they just restored and moved in across the street from the museum.
In front of the school 🏫 house is a fully furnished sheep herder's wagon.
Don't forget to swing up by the high school 🏫 to dig through their piles of rocks to find fossils.
All the above is handicap ♿️ accessible. A public restroom can be found in the old Fossil Mercantile, where you can get snacks and souvenirs.

This is a great town. Has alot of history. After doing the museum, I highly recommend going over to the school, which is across the street. You can also go up behind the school and dig up your own fossils.

Based on one visit: I really liked this museum. It is bigger than it looks, and they have a very interesting mix of cultural and historical items from Fossil and Wheeler county; and way more than simply fossils found in Rock (in fact, they don't have many of those).

Free, though a small donation is suggested. I felt it was well worth what they suggested.

This place is awesome. Even the exterior is a museum. Walking around the quaint area is just gorgeous. So quiet. So beautiful.

One of the best museums to visit in Eastern Oregon.

Created in 1966 by handful of locals wanting to preserve Wheeler County's history. In 1985, museum was moved to it's current location in the historic I.O.O.F building owned by City of Fossil.

Visitors will find collections of Wheeler County history and more from local folk. Displays are nicely organized and most items are labeled by dedicated staff of volunteers.

Museum is volunteer staffed and open seasonally from Memorial Day Weekend to Labor Day Weekend, Wed-Mon 1-4pm, closed Tues. Free admission, but donations are appreciated.

Special tours available year round. Contact Museum to schedule by appointment.

The entire museum has been reorganized, items grouped together, displays relabeled, and photos added to displays to enhance your visit to the museum more enjoyable. Photos have been reprocessed for your viewing pleasure and numbered to allow you to order photos at a nominal fee. Come visit our "new" museum. Opens Friday, Memorial week-end through Monday, Labor Day week-end. We are open Wednesday through Monday (closed Tuesday) from 1:00 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Wonderful museum about Fossil, the lady was so knowledgeable and friendly. My kids enjoyed seeing everything. The school house was fun too. They got to sit at the desks and use slates.

Interesting exhibits on both Bill Bowerman of Nike and Bhagwan Sri Rajneesh formerly of Antelope. Also has a schoolhouse across the street.
