Great little museum in Central city Colorado. Has memorabilia from people that performed at the theater, movie memorabilia of movies shot in Central city, like Centennial and the dutchess and the dirt water fox. 2 floors with displays, and a nice gift shop.

We enjoyed thus museum so much! I even learned a fun fact about where I grew up. Winter Park used to be named West Portal! The submarine was fun to learn about as well. It was well put together and I highly recommend reading everything!

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED - TAKE A TOUR! There may be no better value than the very personal tours available through the Gilpin Historical Society. What a treat it was to experience the town this way!

I wandered into the office this afternoon, wanting to see what kind of history I could find amidst the imposing modern casinos. Emma was sitting at the front desk and offered a number of different tours, each just $10. I chose to accompany her for a personal exploration of the Central City Opera House and Teller House. These buildings have been well-preserved, and you really get a taste for what life must've been like here at the turn of the century. Emma knew so much about these buildings and the surrounding area - friendly, funny and really seemed to enjoy talking about the past.

Later, I also toured the Gilpin History Museum and enjoy a conversation with Chuck, who was working there. I was really surprised by the extensive exhibits and artifacts from every facet of this flourishing society.

Well done, Emma and Chuck. Thank you for giving me such a great introduction to the Richest Square Mile on Earth!

Extensive and detailed history about the town of Gilpin. Including models and replicas of the towns originating shops along Main Street. There’s also areas dedicated to the establishment of the many railways and mining culture.

What a gem! If you really want to see and learn about the local history, this is a must see! The docents are fantastic and will help you with any questions that you have. You can even see the submarine! The old mine across the valley is accessible too, along with the facility across from the Teller House.

If you love all-things American and touring historical homes, you simply must visit the Teller House. Our guide (the Director) was very informative, sharing colorful stories about the owners and guests, and absolutely "wowed" us from the first amazing room to the last. This building is such a gem. Worth the drive to Central City to see it.
