Wonderful, small museum with so much history of this area. I am grateful to the efforts by the very small staff… They’ve done an amazing job of keeping the museum open and archiving historical items. Wonderful to see some of our Hibbard family memorabilia in the museum.

I first visited the place when I was 14 back in the summer of 95, with my mom, brother, sister, and I. It was refreshing to revisit the museum again, and get to see the the clothes that show you what the pioneers wore; and a set out of the living room how our grandfather's lived a simple life, before internet; and the highlight was the exhibit about the Hines Lumber Mill that once provided the economy to Harney County until it shut down: but above all it felt like taking a step back in time.

Very large museum with many items from area residents enlightening us regarding how Harney County became a cattle ranching area in the late 1800’s. Paiute Indians lived and thrived in the area for 1,000’s of years prior to the founding Hines and Burns.
Interesting exhibits with lots of photos of daily life of families from late 1800’s and early 1900’s. Definitely recommend a visit to learn about the county’s history.

I will need to visit several more times to look at it all. Amazing collection of museum quality displays. Everything from Indian items, farming, period clothing and furniture. Complete rooms donated. Enjoyed it.

Amazingly large collection of local historical pieces.
I loved the wagon room, the upstairs display of cattle ranching, World War 1 and 2 displays, the 25 rifles of 100 years or more and so on.
