I am a boarder and student with Tara at HPE and could not recommend her training and care for both horse and rider more highly. I have seen her work with adults who have decided to pick up the sport later in life, to small children, to high/intermediate level riders and her methods are above reproach. She is positive, encouraging, kind, and professional and is one of the most knowledgeable horse people I've had the pleasure to know. She keeps the balance of fun and education perfect in each lesson and I can't help but leave the barn feeling better than I did when I arrived.

We had a wonderful experience with our kids riding for the first time. Tara, the owner and instructor was absolutely awesome teaching them the basics. She was very patient with the kids and helped them get over their fear of riding. My daughter is already asking for another visit!!

I tried hard to stick it out with Horse Powered Equestrian, but from the beginning there were signs that we should have gone with another stable for riding lessons for my daughter. Unfortunately Horse Powered Equestrian was the closest, most convenient location for us, even if their prices weren’t the best. It took about a month to even get through to them on the phone, leaving multiple messages and calling at various times throughout the day. At last we managed to purchase a package of four riding lessons. We understood that our first lesson would be with the owner, but subsequent sessions would be with another instructor. After that first lesson with the owner my daughter complained to me that the woman had been vaping the entire time, trying to hide the vape pen from sight. But the vapor had irritated my daughter’s lungs. Since we knew the other lessons wouldn’t be with the owner we decided not to say anything. The next two riding sessions went well, though the lessons rarely lasted more than twenty minutes, even though they were supposed to be thirty minutes. When we showed up for the fourth session it was with the owner again because the regular instructor had called out for the day. I felt it reasonable to request that the owner not vape around my daughter during the lesson. The owner became offended and confrontational with me, insisting that it wasn’t possible for her to give the lesson without vaping near my daughter, and that she essentially had a right to vape around my daughter. I asked if we could reschedule to have the lesson with her regular instructor, but the owner insisted that we would have needed to give notice in advance to reschedule. Essentially my daughter had to endure the lesson with the vape, or we would have to forfeit the session that we had paid for. We left. After all the short lessons, poor customer service, and complete disregard for my daughter’s health, I cannot recommend Horse Powered Equestrian for riding lessons.

Tara Potempa is an amazing coach and mentor. HPE is a great barn that caters to all levels and has opportunities in IEA, Summer Schooling Shows, boarding lessons, and much much more

Bought the Groupon. Took my daughter as a birthday gift. She loved it. Tara was excellent at teaching her about horses and then with the ride. Great experience. Highly recommend!
