This is a great museum with a friendly museum director. I saw a documentary "Machines that built America" that covered the invention and history of the Maytag washing machine and drove 3 states to see this large Collection of Maytag history. You won't be disappointed. Fascinating. The museum also has a large 1930's section of items and if you are a vintage car fan there is an awesome, very rare car as well (it has a golf club compartment). Have you ever seen an antque typewriter that types musical notes? This museum has one...I didnt even know that was a thing. The museum is easy access right off route 80 in Newton Iowa. A must see. The museum director was kind in letting me make an appointment to see the museum at 1100am before they opened so I could continue on my travels. The other museums along my travel were disappointments but not this one, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

They should post the correct hours on Google. From Oct. to Apr., the Museum is closed on weekends. My friend and I rang the bell, and no one came to the front entrance. Then, I called, and per the voice recording, the weekend hours of 1-4pm. are only valid for May - September.

I have never been here before, they were having lighted Christmas tree displays, so I went to check it out. Wow, it was fantastic. All of the beautiful decorated trees and Christmas decor. I would most definitely recommend. I also was interested in the actual Museum pieces that I saw and definitely will go back another time to peruse the museums collection. Hope they have it again next year. It's needs more advertisement, reaching out to surrounding areas. I spoke to a few people and they were unaware of this event.

The Jasper County Historical Museum is a fantastic experience full of all the rich history that made up the places we call home here in Jasper. There are so many things that built it up to where it is today, from back to the Natives to being a hub for the Underground Railroad, to men and women who defended our country, and to where we are today. This little nook will undoubtedly inspire those who see to look at their own lives to consider the contributions that can be made for further progress.

Stumbled into the garage after museum was officially closed as Denny and others were running and cooling down the big steam engine Minneapolis. What a treat to get to see that in action and get the thorough explanation of the inner workings by Bill(?) Over a hundred years old and still running smoothly! These volunteers are doing wonders.

Always a great place to learn about all the deep history of jasper County. Christmas event was top notch. All volunteer staff put a lot of hard work and dedication and it shows.

I enjoyed this museum. It was well laid out and was full of great content including a lot of Maytag history. It was also staffed by people who were very enthusiastic about the museum and history of Jasper county. I plan on revisiting this museum so I can take more of it in.
