A mangy pitbull bit my wife and when I called the animal control they showed up in 10 minutes to get the dog. Mad respect to these ladies that came out to wrestle this chunker to the ground on a blazing hot July afternoon.

Just had someone come over to check on a little bird that had gotten out of his nest. She looked all over to find his nest. She was so very helpful and kind!

Beware of Jefferson County Animal Control lack of responsibility for their work. I was inside the Target store when an announcement with my license plate number said for me to go to Customer Service. They said my dog was in the car with the windows up and I replied to the Target employee and the woman that reported it that the air conditioning was running with the setting at 65 degrees. The Target employee was friendly and was satisfied that everything was OK so I finished shopping. Two days later I received a letter from Jefferson County Animal Control stating that I left my dog in the car with the windows up with the outside temperature of 88 degrees and that I could call to discuss it with an animal control officer. I was not aware that Jefferson County animal control was contacted until I received the letter. I talked to 4 different people all with different stories of the incident before learning they never sent anyone out to check if the report was true. I told them the air conditioning was running but they would only take the word of the person that called in. They didn't care if the reporting person was telling the truth or do they care to address the false report. This has caused extreme stress to my family and Jefferson County Animal Control continues with no responsibility for their lack of duty. Beware and stay clear of them at all costs.

I had been taking care of a dog for a friends friend. The owner was clearly abusive and the dog was not living a happy life. It bit a roommate so I contacted animal control saying we couldn't keep the dog anymore after this incident. They showed up within 90 minutes and were very professional and told us everything to tell the owner should they decide they want to keep the dog. I wish they had a policy to prevent abusive owners from getting their dogs back, but at least I know he is in a good place until then. I have nothing but respect for these people doing there jobs.

Worthless county organization! A Sheriff's run animal control that doesnt communicate with the Sheriff's Department.

As of May 24 I am writing a revision & upgrading the rating from a 1 to a 5 star rating!
The last few times dealing with the animal control have been a nore quality experience. Our community in Mountain gate has many small property owners with nuisance and off leash dogs do to privately owned nature the HOA is biased, so we rely on Jefferaon county.
My family Dog has been attacked my many small breeds that are very loud and when the dogs are off leash or not in control this can be a problem for a foster dog that survived Hurrican Harvey & was relocated to our home in Colorado through a service.
Jefferson county animal control had been non biased and helpful with our registed foster pup! Thank you

My reviews change on true life interaction.

Refuses to allow elderly animals to die in peace naturally. They will steal your pet out of your yard and try to euthanize them, saying the animal is "abused" when It's not. Your vet has a right to immediately check on the animal but JeffCo lies and tries to euthanize the animal asap. You'll need a lawyer to quickly intervene. My advice is to never leave your animal unattended in the yard and rush them inside if you see city vehicles drive by.

Jefferson County Animal control was contacted this weekend because a someone in Pine, Co left their dog outside to die. The dog was in excruciating pain, crying and bellowing all night long. The owners did not want to get their carpet dirty since the dog might spoil it'self so they left it outside, alone, with no water or food, in the freezing temps to die. Several rescue groups were doing everything they could to try and find a way to get the dog and end its pain. Jeffco was called, was on the way and everyone figured they would handle the situation. WRONG! The walked away, left the dog outside to die. THEY DID NOTHING!!! What is the point of paying taxes for a government entity that does not have the best intent? This is an awful situation, even deer who are hit on the highway have their lives ended humanely but a poor, old, innocent dog. Why should Jeffco care. In my and several others opinions this was gross negligence on behalf of Jeffco Animal Control!

Some things happened with my roommate, which made him unable to care for his animals for the night. Animal control was fully capable at dealing with dogs, as most people are. On the other hand, my roommate had a lot of reptiles that animal control did not know how to handle. I had to help animal control get a 16 foot snake out of his enclosure (I'm a 95 pound girl) because they were beyond scared of handling snakes. I told them he is nice, and you can grab him as any other snake. They still did not know how to grab him out. Instead of taking the full enclosure the bernese phython was in, they threw him in a tiny construction bucket. A 16 foot snake. When we even cleaned out another tank for him, they said "this is just less risky for us" when their job is to be making animals as comfortable as possible. With the next snake, I told them right away I got it because he is a little bit testy and I knew they would not handle him with care. I begin to open the enclosure to immediately be crowded by curious animal control officers. Curious of a snake. A snake I told them that would bite if anyone was near. I began to pull him out, before I pull the head out I told everyone, please stand back so I can just pull him and lift him into the bucket. Everyone got closer and animal control grabbed the snake, making him cool in panic. I ended up getting the snake out, but I was genuinely concerned for him to bite one of the officers but it would not have been my fault or the snakes fault. There was a also a small 2 foot Camen in a pond. I informed animal control that I can handle him if they did not know how to handle the situation. They got out huge rods with metal ropes on them, and started to agitate the Camen. All while video taping while talking about how they are going to be "posting it on facebook" while any reptile owner could try they were putting the Camen thru major distress. They were pulling him by the back of his tail, which is a sensitive spot on him and is the most likely place to be bit while handling a Camen. When handling a Camen you need to grab the Camen on the back of the head. Duct tapping a 2 foot Camen mouth, who is handled every single day is not necessary. I strongly suggest that animal control gets reptile training because me as a young girl should not have had to help ANIMAL CONTROL handle reptiles. I am not even a reptile person and I handled the situation a million times better than any of the officers on scene.
