I've had two lovely experiences so far with Cathedral/Kenton Animal Hospital:
1. We were dogsitting when the dog got a paw injury. They got us in so quickly, and treated him with such care! He is dog-reactive, they were very careful and mindful when we brought him in and left the clinic, helping us avoid other patients. Gave him lots of cheese treats and love to make him feel comfortable!
2. We recently adopted a very skittish/nervous dog. Brought her in for an initial visit. They were very patient with her, making her feel as comfortable as possible while they checked her out.

I very much appreciate the care and attention offered by all the staff here! Would recommend bringing your pet in.

My cat Charlotte is 13 years old and this was by far the best vet experience we've ever had. Everyone was incredibly warm and friendly. She was spoiled with loves, cat nip and treats throughout her visit and didn't even notice her vaccine shot.
I'm an autistic interior designer (highly sensitive to my environment) and really appreciated these thoughtful details:

-The exam room has a dimmer switch so the overhead light wasn't so intense.
-Relaxing music.
-Plants.
-Swimming fish on the monitor.
-Using a plush bath mat on top of the cold metal exam table.
-Using calming hormone spray on the mat before we got there and spoiled Charlotte with cat nip and treats.
-Beautiful wallpapered restroom that didn't feel clinical.

They go above and beyond here! Super grateful to find such a great spot for our animals.

My cat and I both had a great experience with her recent exam, lab work, dentistry and ultrasound. I'm a retired veterinarian, and I was very happy and impressed with the level of service, professionalism and competence of all the staff, and everyone was so nice and welcoming! Really charming decor as well; a really nice space.

We had a great visit to Kenton Animal Hospital. The staff was friendly and professional from start to finish. The doctor offered several treatment options to see what was the best fit for our dog and family. I appreciated their transparency when discussing the cost for the various treatment approaches. We feel very comfortable trusting their medical expertise and recommendations. The facility is clean, quiet and professional. Though our senior dog isn’t always happy to see them, the staff is always excited to see him!

I've been going to Kenton and Cathedral Animal Hospitals basically since they opened. The staff has always gone above and beyond and has been kind, funny, and so sweet with the four cats I've taken there over the years, from afterhours/weekend phone calls and home visits. I always feel well informed and confident that my cat children are in the best of hands. Thank you for taking such good care of them!

We were going to the national chain VCA vets when we first had Mila and I’ll say to anyone you will not regret leaving them and coming to Kenton Animal hospital. They treat the animals and their parents with a lot of respect. They give you treatment choices (as opposed to always the most expensive treatment option). They will let you know when you can work on natural cures or when you should think about the next option. My dog actually likes coming here. So do I. Oh and when you make a scheduled time they are actually ready to see you then. Something’s may cost a little more, but it is worth it, and I think you will save money, getting the straight scoop from vets who care here at Kenton Animal hospital rather than vets who are pushed toward giving treatment options by the provider.

This seems to be a good veterinary practice and the doctor who saw my 6 month old, newly adopted and completely unsocialized pug puppy yesterday was very professional and personable. My fearful little guy totally relaxed with her which was quite impressive!

What I found disappointing however, and is the reason for three stars instead of four, is that I saw no evidence of holistic or integrative therapy suggestions, offerings or council. I mean zero. It was the standard recommendation for flea and tick chemicals, heart worm medication, vaccines and prescription dog food.

The doctor had several great recommendations for puppy socials or training so I am grateful for this.

To be clear, I am not anti-vaccine so my little guy is fully vaccinated but I’ve had many dogs over my lifetime and prefer a holistic approach to pest control and nutrition. My last four pugs lived to 14,16 and 17 years on a well researched homemade diet so I feel some amount of impatience when I’m told it’s not good enough. A quality homemade diet is expensive and takes a lot of effort to prepare. Can all the doggy-chefs out there please get some useful feedback from their veterinarians instead of recommendations to do exactly what they are trying to avoid (which is buy prescription or commercial dog food)?
As far as dietary advice, honestly, veterinary practices need to give their clients the benefit of the doubt when they are feeding their dogs home made meals. I do a ton of research on nutritional needs and vets often assume we’re all sitting at home feeding our dogs only chicken and rice day in and day out.

I went to Kenton looking for a different type of vet and what I found was a good vet but one who practices the standard form of treatment I can get just about anywhere. I’m still looking for a holistic vet for both of my dogs. If I find one, somewhere else I probably won’t be back to Kenton. If you want a doctor who is kind and gentle but practices traditional veterinary medicine then this is a great option
