The Kentucky State Capitol building located in Frankfort, Kentucky is considered one of the top three most beautiful State Capitals in the entire United States. It rivals the US Capitol in Beauty. The Capitol building is free to visit and easily accessible. This qualifies as one of my "Hidden Gem" things to do. Currently the exterior of the rotunda is being refreshed, but the interior is absolutely flawless. So much history, and you can roam freely among the lawmakers if they happen to be around. Great place to visit.

Let me start with a warning: this building will be completely closed in the near future for extensive repairs that could last years. Apparently, the building's electrical and plumbing all date to 1910 and are in serious need of updating. I enjoyed visiting and taking the one-hour tour, but it does not stand out compared to other state capitols that my wife and I have visited. Other than numerous portraits and statues, there is precious little art. Standing in the center concourse, looking about me, and seeing nothing but heavy, gray, marble walls, ceilings, and columns, I felt mostly oppressed rather than uplifted. The tour highlights were the governor's reception room with its faux marble and view of Frankfort, and the Supreme Court chambers paneled in Honduras mahogany.

Previously my favorite capitol was Mississippi, two days ago it became West Virginia, my fellow Americans, today it is now Kentucky. Though the exterior is rather unassuming, a friendly staff greets you at the front entrance, as you enter the actual building, marble staircases and hallways surround you. You look up at the large mesmerizing rotunda of the building, and slowly notice the paintings painted into the curved walls, then you look straight ahead, you are greeted by a colossus of Abraham Lincoln.

No other capitol in America--which is roughly half as a writing this--is so beautiful. Congratulations Kentucky! You have a colossus of a capitol!

"United we stand, divided we fall"
We had the opportunity/honor to visit the Kentucky State Capitol in MAR_FY2024 and it was an amazing experience, a great opportunity to learn more about Kentucky's history and legacy.
We did a plant tour and for sure it's a remarkable building.
Definitely, it's a place that deserves my respect. It was a privilege.

I have been to around 15 State Capitols, this was one was really nice. My favorite part is it had the most fully functioning library out of all of them! The Librarian staff was so insightful about the history of the building and Kentucky. As well as being able to compare her own Capitol building to other state capitals. She was able to suggest a lovely spot for breakfast Andy's which was an absolutely delicious experience. So overall my trip through Kentucky in Louisville and Frankfort and a few other stops was very nice. I suggest everybody stop at the state capitol building.

It is a beautiful building with a lot of history. Construction started in 1905 and was finished at 1909. Granite and marble inside was from, Vermont, Georgia, and India. honestly, I wouldn’t enjoyed it as much if George and Linda hadn’t been there, they were delightful. Good people!
I WOULD RECOMMEND
