Went here today to check out the dogs. Person at the desk was very weird. Asked me what size dog I wanted then decided they had the "perfect dog for my family" which was a huge assumption just based solely on one question. I asked to go see the kennels and she gave me a bunch of excuses as to why I couldn't go back there. THEN, SHE TOLD ME THE DOGS CAN BREAK OUT OF THEIR KENNELS... like, excuse you? So I obviously didn't push it for safety reasons. Very strange unwelcoming experience.

I was a local resident of the Parish, worked volunteer hours at PAWS as a teen, and got my cat, Daisy, and my dog, Spider, from this shelter. They were super nice and helpful, and could tell I was serious about my adoption though I was a kid. My legal guardian, of course, still had to sign papers each time- as they should to ensure the pets’ safety, but the staff was super helpful and always nice, especially since the change in them. Not to mention the facility is great and spacious, and the cats get free space to roam within an indoor/outdoor (caged) facility/room and the dogs get plenty of time out of their kennels to run and play. They’re very swift with operations, as my dog, Spider, has just arrived when I fell for him, and so he was fixed and vaccinated and ready to go within the grace period. I’ve spent many hours here and each time I’m more and more amazed at the care and control of the people who run it. That, AND their charity work- such as the low cost vaccinations we attend each year for the pets of the community. I think that’s super helpful. Place deserves my 5 stars. I’ll be back today to hopefully make a forever home to a cat/kitten, and my hopes for this place are nothing less than sky high, as I’ve had a wonderful experience in the past with volunteer work, donations, and adoptions. Everyone should consider this shelter.

We really have had a pleasant experience adopting our kitties from the Plaquemines location. Staff has always been super helpful and nice. At another location we've been put to wait for close to an hour after our appointment time. Here they greet you as soon as you walk in and answer all questions you have.

I brought my granddaughter puppy for his shots at the SPCA it was lovely to say I don't care for animals but my granddaughter had to work and my niece went with to care for the puppy everyone was so nice the workers and everyone else who was there with they animals was very nice great conversation while in line and didn't expect for the line to move so fast but it did. I can say an A+ for everyone enjoyed it thanks for the price of the of shots $5 and free dog food love it my granddaughter was very happy thanks to the staff loving people

A really nice shelter with cages big enough for the animals where they don't just Pace to feet back and forth. Staff is friendly and helpful. So many animals need a home, please take a ride and see these beautiful creatures before you get a pedigree
