Great little theatre and music venue. The small Aretha's Cafe inside has great cocktails. Come early, avoid the stress, and have a nice cocktail.

We have never been to this venue before. We were very pleasantly surprised. We prepaid for parking right next door. It's a smaller venue with great acoustics. A nice lounge to enjoy cocktails before the show. I'd highly recommend this venue if an artist you enjoys performs there.

Went here for a Company meeting, and I love the history that comes with the place. For sure a cultural Icon in the heart of Detroit and originally opened back in 1928!! Love the history Detroit has to offer and am so glad to see everything starting to be revitalized. Can't wait to see what the city looks like 5 years down the road! Would like to eventually go here and watch an actual performance!

If you need accessible seating, avoid this venue. It was the worst experience I’ve had at a venue—and I go to many. In fact, I own a small, fully ADA-accessible music venue. While Music Hall is a beautiful historic venue, getting from the lobby to the auditorium requires navigating stairs. Given the venue’s age, that’s understandable, but there’s no elevator—only a single-person wheelchair platform lift. At the event I attended, the lift malfunctioned, trapping me inside for 10 minutes until staff could get the door open.

What’s frustrating is that there are exits at the front of the auditorium that lead directly to the sidewalk. Why not use one of them as an accessible entrance/exit?

The “accessible seating” is simply the last row of seats removed, with a swinging gate added for entry. The space is so narrow that wheelchairs have to be turned sideways—imagine watching an entire concert like that. At my event, there were two other wheelchair users in the section. I was the third, and there wasn’t enough room for both my wheelchair and the companion seat I had purchased. After a lot of back and forth, the staff admitted they had sold more accessible seats than the space could accommodate. How does a venue not know its own accessible seating capacity?

I was ready to leave, but they eventually moved us to an aisle seat. My wife took a regular seat, and I sat in the aisle itself—not ideal, as the sloped floor forced me to lean forward the entire concert. It was better than sitting sideways in the designated section while my wife sat elsewhere, but still far from comfortable.

I won’t be returning to this venue, but more importantly, I want to warn other wheelchair users about these issues. It’s disappointing.

It has a little age on it, but that’s just history talking… It’s a nice, quaint place that makes you feel close to the artists. Service was fast, friendly, and efficient. Awesome location, just down the street from Comerica Park, Ford Field and the Hilton Garden Inn. Plenty of good places within walking distance to eat and drink. I shall return!

We were here to see Super Freak, the play based on Rick James life. It was sooooooo good. Do yourself a favor and see it when it comes to your city. I drove from Cleveland, OH, to see it. My husband is a fan. There is a very small Cafe type place inside where you can sit and have a small bite to eat if you want. There is a bar on each level of sitting. Very convenient!
From what I gather, this place is legendary. A lot of people got their start here.
People will be people. The show started promptly at 8pm but people kept coming in super late. Lights were down so the ushers were getting frustrated with them. Mostly because the customers were frustrated. They were late tho!
All in all, great show. I'd definitely come back! Stokely was awesome as adult prime time Rick James. The lady playing the mother can SANG! Baaaaaaaby, she has the voice! And Tina Marie actress...showed all the way out.
