We absolutely love our Noelani (formerly Bambi) cat 🐈‍⬛ that I got at the Newberg Animal Shelter this past year. She likes the dog, and the boys. She loves to go on leash walks around our property.

We got a kitty from Newberg animal shelter a while back, and they did not properly disclose her medical information to us. The vet informed us recently that her age, dental needs, and medical needs were all misreported.

We were told she was under 6 months, (she was a very tiny little lady) and that her teeth (that of which were causing her issues / pain) were her baby teeth and would not cause issues once her adult teeth came in. She also had multiple other medical issues that were not mentioned during her adoption. (Feline Herpes, Stomatitis, advanced Kidney disease and breathing defects that were prevalent immediately after we got her home.)

The worker seemed incredibly eager to get the money and get her out of the shelter, no matter what it took. (even telling us that it's not common for cats to "dislike" one another -- a huge lie and reg flag we should have noticed -- when we discussed that we were a two cat household and we wanted to make sure the two got along properly. )

I can let the age discrepancy slide, as she was deceivingly tiny, but the lies or lack of care for her other illnesses are unacceptable.

If we would have known the medical needs she had, we may have allowed her to be adopted by a family more apt for caring for her. As a multiple cat household, not knowing her medical needs also put us as risk for multiple cat deaths or transmission of illnesses.

After only a little while with us, she passed due to her chronic kidney issues. I could never regret taking her in and giving her a comfortable life, but pet owners deserve the transparency and dignity of knowing a cats medical issues and proper age during the adoption process.

Please do not adopt from them, if you can help it.

If you do, pester intensely for full medical information. Do not allow them to continue to ship out very sick kitties to get them "out" of the shelter as fast as possible.

I adopted a beautiful pups and the adoption coordinator Nicky Young was amazing. She spent time with me and the pups while we saw if she was a good fit. Once the pups and I were determined to be a match, she completed all of the paperwork. A great experience and I highly recommend seeing them.

The Newberg Animal Shelter is a great place to volunteer and to adopt from. I volunteered with them first: one of my previous employers allowed us to volunteer up to 21 hours a year for pay & I enjoyed spending a bulk of those hours at Newberg. They were wonderful hosts & I really felt like I made a difference with cleaning out the dog enclosures. I signed up to foster with them next, and I "foster failed" on my first foster - which is a little mixed breed girl that they called Parker. I re-named her Pepper, and she's been a joy. When I adopted her they gave a lovely adoption care bag - one of the items was a stuffed unicorn that she still cuddles and plays with. She's been a healthy and happy little girl, and she's turning 5 months old in a few days. She's going to have a lovely forever home, and they chose wisely for an adopter. 🙂 Their staff clearly cares about the animals there, and they're a reasonable drive from the Portland Metro. I'm someone that values supporting rural organizations, and this one is definitely worth it. I'd also recommend them as a great place to donate to. They accept your BottleDrop Plus funds if you use BottleDrop and/or if you work at Intel they're listed as an organization to match donations. They're one of only 2 of dozens of places I donate to that I've received a thank you note from.

Nice shelter with open rooms for most cats. Cats with problems stay out in kennels in the lobby so they can be watched.
It was interesting that they don't allow people back in with the dogs since it upsets them so much. So they have a wall that they post the picture and details of the dogs for you to see. Once you find a dog you like they will bring it out for you to meet.
Make sure if you already own a dog that you bring it along to do a "meet and greet" so you know that all parties get along.
They have a small store set-up with items for sale to benefit the shelter.
This was also the first shelter I've visited that has one of the "small libraries" out front to use.
All in all, a nice place, privately owned, no kill shelter. Open 11 to 6 most days. Check their website or Facebook for more information.

Went here for their Puppy-Palooza and got to enjoy some puppy snuggles. The staff was friendly, and the animals seemed very well taken care of. Disappointed my husband didn't let us bring one home, but enjoyed the event the put on in hopes of finding these animals a new home.
Their puppy's were already chipped, fixed, and vaccinated which is awesome.

Engaging and very nice people. My cat Mallory 🐈 😻 is from there. They make sure you will be the right fit with your pet and that you are qualified to take care of the pet. Nicky was fun to talk to and extremely nice, as was everyone there.

What a wonderful group of people doing their best to care for animals awaiting adoption. My family has now adopted two cats from them and we couldn't be happier.
