A worthy proprietor and great movie house. Home away from home in a small town with limited theater's. I thank the owner for all the great movies I have seen at the establishment.

I love the Orpheum Theatre. I am glad it is still up and running! I used to go with my Uncle Perry and my cousins and brother when we were in elementary school, over 45 years ago.

I had a lovely time at this theater! It's a very cute theater with all your usual expectations (snacks were good and very reasonably priced conpared to national chain prices).

I was surprised to see that they were even playing big name releases which is awesome.

Best movie theater on Kodiak island! Actually the movies are really reasonably priced. Especially for a community no know for an expensive cost of living. Nice to have a local theater, instead of the same corporate owned ones you encounter other places. The place has been around, in one form or another for coming up on a century, and was one of the last theaters in America to switch from 35mm film to digital. In 2013. Also adding 3D movies to their offerings at that time.

It's an old theater with new technology. The newest movies aren't always showing, which is to be expected in a small, remote island. They try their best to provide for everyone on the island.
I'm not a big fan of 3D so I like to go to the 2D versions of the movies.

I'll admit that I have a certain bias when it comes to rating this theater. I was born in Kodiak, and the first film I ever saw when I was 4--Star Wars--was at the Orpheum. I have many childhood "movie memories" associated with this small theater. Over the years I would see a lot of the great films here. There has been lots of changes to equipment since. They used to have mono sound, and it was good quality mono, too--nice and rich. Then they finally got the Dolby Digital system installed, and the sound is now very good, not perfect, but very good. To my ears, anyway, it sounds a little pushed to the treble end, but that may be just me. Nice bass thump with explosions (the sub-woofer is mounted in back of the screen I was told, and that seems to be a good place for it). The image quality is exceptional. Nice, clean HD digital image. It's true that the screen is small (I'm not sure of the exact measurement), but for the size of the theater itself, it feels just right when you are watching a film. Did I mention that this little theater has RealD 3D capability? Yes! Prices are good too, much cheaper than at the big multiplexes. For the cheapest price, you want to go during matinee, on Saturdays and Sundays at 2:00. The only drawback here is that the films are shown in 2D only during matinee showings.
A unique feature of the Orpheum is that they offer balcony seating (also known as loges seating)--of which you can buy your ticket in advance. This is very cool, as it makes you feel that you are sitting in your own personal theater.
Lastly, the people there are really nice. The concession counter runs efficiently with speedy service. The popcorn is great. They also offer hot dogs--which are also pretty good.
Oh, one more thing. They recently started showing older films here, as well, such as "The Sound of Music". ( I wish I would have been able to see it! I heard that the digital print and sound quality were amazing). How many theaters have that option?
The Orpheum Theatre is a unique venue in every way. There are not too many single screen public theaters left in the U.S.. If you are ever on a visit to Kodiak Island, it would be well worth your time to stop in and catch a show.

Saw Avengers, decent theater, lots of snacks. The popcorn was actually better than most chain theaters. Unfortunately the sound was relatively quiet and the chairs aren't super comfortable, but the visual quality was good.
