We came here for brunch, and the food was delicious! This is one of the healthiest restaurants in the Sundestin area. I particularly enjoyed the avocado toast and salad. My husband loved the omelette.

I have to say, from the entrance, it was incredible. The kindness of the staff and their attention were wonderful. The table and ambiance felt very comfortable. Our server was spot-on with recommendations for both drinks and dishes. We ordered an Old Fashioned and a special Margarita that truly enchanted us. The best fried rice I've ever had, and I say that as a rice fan. We went for the night's specialty – the rack of lamb and the NY strip – both delicious. To top it off, we ordered the wonderful cheesecake and mango crème brûlée for dessert. The chef came out to greet us, very kind in sharing some of his time with us.

I highly recommend our server his name Pablo, if you want great dish recommendations and a fantastic experience. I felt warmly welcomed by the Ovide team.

Would we return? Would I recommend them? Yes to both!

We came here for dinner and it was delicious. We had a couple appetizers and the cast iron chicken which I would highly recommend. The restaurant is very pretty and the service was great. Thank you Pablo for making our experience unforgettable!! 🙂

Breakfast is Mid, Dinner slightly Above Average!

Did my headline catch your attention? This was my teenager’s balanced response when I asked her to rate the food at Ovide. During our stay at Hotel Effie we tried nearly every food item on their small, yet well-crafted breakfast menu (excluding seafood dishes). Their well-crafted small menus limited us at dinner, so we chose not to dine their again after the first night. Overall, I rate the restaurant 4/5; see the pros and cons based on our spring break experience.

PROS: Generous portion sizes and reasonably priced. Food is plated beautifully, and the staff is attentive and professional. We were warned by the front desk that Ovide fills us fast, so it was imperative that we booked our dinner appointments early if we wanted to dine; however, there were less than two other families there when we arrived at 6:30 p.m. We were able to book reservations 15 minutes before we decided to eat for the remainder of the trip, with rarely many guests in the restaurant during those times. The restaurant is elegant and quaint and provides a relaxing ambiance to dine. The full gulf breakfast is a no brainer and should be everyone’s go to menu option!
Food Highlight/Standouts: Mimosas, coffee!!!!!, and bacon.

CONS: Flavor. The food descriptions listed on the small, yet well-crafted menus read better than they taste. The food is not terrible but does not hit the palate as expected. I found myself adding salt and pepper (as did my teenager) to every meal. Their dinner menu lacks a vegetarian option and one of the only two pescatarian options has pork sausage in it (Shrimp & Grits). I should note that the chef was able to prepare this dish without pork, however I’m sure this negatively altered the intended flavor of the four ingredients dish. Their breakfast menu inadvertently has corn beef listed as a vegetarian option; however, it is NOT VEGETARIAN! The biscuits are bland and the French toast unsatisfactory. Based on the well-crafted description the French toast (my go to breakfast item) should have tasted amazing but not theirs; adding syrup could not fix the flavor. Last con, their menu is reasonably priced, however additional side items are pricey.

Some of their dishes are seasonal so the menu changes according to availability. The octopus that others have posted on their review was not available during my stay.
Would I dine here again? Sure, with my Amex Food and Beverage credit. Would I dine there again using my own money? probably not.

Last night was an absolute delight at Ovide! From the warm greeting to the swift delivery of my Moscow mule, the service was truly top-notch. The Heirloom Tomato & Burrata salad not only boasted fantastic flavors but also wowed with its impeccable presentation on the plate. PinWheel Lasagna was a pleasant surprise, and it certainly won't be my last encounter with this delightful dish. The Italian sausage bolognese and pasta showcased some of the best flavors and dish I've experienced in the area.

To top it all off, the Vanilla Creme Brulee with fruits and a mango gel was the perfect sweet ending, complemented by an equally impressive presentation. After this delightful dinner, we made our way to the lobby bar at the Effie for a nightcap, where live music and a friendly crowd added to the overall wonderful experience.

For those in the Sandestin Resort area, I highly recommend making a reservation at Ovide. It's an experience worth savoring, and don't forget to catch a breathtaking rooftop sunset before your dinner at the top of the Effie Hotel. Cheers to memorable evenings and exquisite dining!

My husband and I spent a few nights at the Hotel Effie Sandestin and we had a wonderful experience every time we ate at Ovide.
The menu presented a variety of delicious dishes able to satisfy all people, from vegans to celiacs. During the weekend, there is a special brunch menu and special dishes are daily available.
The chef even customized vegetarian-friendly meals for me all nights and he personally came out to check on me and greet us.
The ingredients used to make each dish are of excellent quality, as well as the wines, and the presentation of each plate was outstanding!
The staff was amazing: David, Pablo, and Kelly surrounded us with their kindness, attention and professionalism. We were spoiled by all the personnel that were able to satisfy all our requests!

Looking forward to eating at Ovide again!! Highly recommended!

This was a unique and pleasant find within the panhandle of Florida. For my own selfish considerations, I am just glad not many people read my reviews so I can still easily dine here again in the future!

Ovide is led by Chef Hugh Acheson a James Beard Award-renowned chef, the chef has restaurants in a few different locations, but I personally think Ovide has great potential in Florida. Currently, many people flock to Miami, Tampa, and Orlando for fine dining experiences, but personally, I see the potential in the Destin area.

My wife and I were staying at the Effie and were fortunate enough to have quite a few pleasant experiences at Ovide. There was fine attention to décor, cutlery, and overall design. The food was very memorable and worth a visit. The kitchen staff was very accommodating and knowledgeable about food allergies and were able to make appropriate adjustments, recommendations, and aversions.

While visiting we enjoyed elegantly shucked oysters with sweet, clean, and briny delight. The favorite, hands down, were the pork ribs but we also enjoyed the pork chops, Cornish hen, she-crab soup, and many other unique offerings.

I am excited to see how this restaurant continues to evolve and influences the surrounding area.

To make it to the restaurant, you need to get through the gate at Baytowne, and have the gate guards give you a daily pass to access the hotel. When you get to the hotel, expect to have to use the valet to park (although you could opt to park in the dirt lot across the golf course).
Ovide's location in the hotel made it easy to grab a hearty breakfast later in the morning after a long night out or a filling dinner to prepare you for a long evening out on the town. Everything we tried was almost perfectly flavored and cooked. For some reason, though, the real standout of all their exquisite fare was their humble Effie's biscuits. Sometimes, it is the simplest of creations that garner the greatest of praise, as it is with these from scratch fluffy creations. Like most hotel restaurants with a named chef, expect to pay a premium for their revolving options. However, given their location in Baytowne, you could consider the prices to be comparatively average given the quality of their offerings.
Service was hit or miss, even if you have the same waiter on successive trips. Thankfully, the ratio tended more towards hit than miss in our experience.
