My husband and I are traveling to Iowa to celebrate Thanksgiving with friends and stopped in for dinner.

We shared their pork belly lettuce wraps, truffle fries, and brussel sprouts. Everything was delicious, but the true star of the show is the pumpkin spice bread pudding! We devoured it.

I wish we had a place like this at home. There are many more things on the menu that we'd love to try.

Solid food, cocktail, and beer choices, with some vegan and gluten free options as well.
Pricing is in the middle to high end. There are $15-20 dishes, but can easily go into the $25-35 range or even higher. There is a speakeasy downstairs, but it was closed when we visited. Would recommend making a reservation to avoid waiting, as it can get busy.

We got there early (they open at 11AM on Saturday) and they graciously opened the door for us. Our server was friendly and professional and helpful with all of our menu questions. My food was hot and delicious and made from fresh, quality ingredients. The portions were generous and reasonably priced. We had traveled a distance to meet up and stayed until closing, placing a later order of the three desserts offered at lunch for the table. I really loved the coffee too! (It was a nice surprise as I am really picky about coffee.) They had a clean and well-stocked bathroom. Although we didn't partake, they had a full service bar and offer specialty drinks. The staff was gracious about our over-staying. I will definitely go back next time I am in the state.

Stopped for the night in Grinnell on my way to visit family in Nebraska. Randomly picked Prairie Canary for dinner and I was not disappointed. Staff were amazingly attentive and smooth even though they were slammed with an unexpected full house on a Tuesday night. Faye was fantastic. I had the canary salad and pesto chicken sandwich, both delicious, but if I come back on another random trip, I will try the apple salad. Highly recommend.

Shannon was great!! Gave some great recommendations!! Bacon Jam Burger was delicious with the goat cheese and hand-cut fries. For desert, the Berry Shortcake allows you to treat yourself and wasn’t heavy; very sweet. Shannon recommended a great cider, on tap.

I’m a tourist and would recommend this place to any travelers!!

We ate here for mother's day brunch and it was our first time. They got us seated quickly, our waiter was friendly and attentive, and the food was delicious. It was the best shrimp and grits I have had outside of New Orleans. Absolutely stellar!

Prairie Canary is a local gem here in Central Iowa. I would absolutely recommend you check it out. The staff and owners are wonderfully inviting and have made a perfect spot to enjoy a meal. Make a night of it and check out their speakeasy for the perfect nightcap.
