I have given Ripley County Humane Society a 5 star rating for a reason.
I very VERY leave a 5 star mark….
To share a brief experience it goes like this………..
I searched several shelters , dog pounds , havens , ect to rescue a gods gift to us all.
Them I came along Ripley County Humane Society….
I made 3 trips to the facility.
What I found was the staff was knowledgeable, caring, affectionate… and every word you could think of ❤️
So I made the decision to adopt these 2 sisters that are 3 years old and have been together since birth and the staff said that they would not separate them ( I wasn’t interested in separating them ) . But my point is , the wonderful staff CARES ! About every single god given dog that passes through their sweet gentle hands !
I love all 3 of them great folks I’ve meant and will take my 2 baby’s back to visit as I promised ❤️

I will admit, I was nervous about making a 2 and a half hour drive to see a doggy. But after talking with Janet all week m I was very happy to meet our newest family member.

I'm legally blind, so for me finding the right dog is hard. I needed something that was big, but also not super rambunctious 9r high energy.

After inquiring about another dog that had already been adopted, we were told about sunshine. Sunshine is so shy and timid right now but I know she will warm up eventually.

I'm very happy that I made the drive. And I appreciate all of their help. They even gave us a goody bag.

Lovely place, very well maintained. The people that work here are super helpful and have the animal's best interest in mind. We just rescued an older dog from here and are very thankful for the wonderful care they had for her.

Clean, roomy & bright. Ample room for animals to play & lounge. Care-takers are courteous & proficient at caring for their four-legged residents. All the animals I visited were friendly & ready to be petted. Give them a visit, volunteer &/or donate. A no-kill shelter. Have adopted from here & would do so again.

Most of the employees are nice and care for the dogs. The facility is kept nice and dogs are well cared for. The problem is that (as I've seen in other reviews) they do not help homeless, lost, abused or neglected animals, unless it is a puppy. Several years ago I took a litter of starving pups I found dumped on a backroad to them and had to pay them $35 for each puppy in order for them to take them. It cost me over $200 to do the right thing. They've said before puppies are their bread & butter, it's where they make most of their money. If you have an adult dog needing help they may accept it if it is a desirable breed that will quickly get adopted. They will not take a dog that is harder to get adopted, even if they have room. I've taken in a dog there once that they refused the man that found her because she was too old. I found a dog hit on the side of the road recently and called there to see if they knew any vets or rescues that help in that type of situation because I didn't have the money to pay for a vet. They literally told me "I don't know what to tell you, you can just leave it there." I was shocked and p@$$ed at the rudeness and total lack of empathy for a suffering animal. They get puppies from other states shelters and animal control which is great but they don't help the dogs from the county they are supposed to be here for. They refuse to take cats at all, they said they no longer accept cats. That didn't apply when there was a big rescue op that got them in the paper. Then they took cats. It's very sad.
