Riverside Theater is the best serious theater performance venue in the area. Many new plays have debuted here over the years. The new location on the pedestrian mall provides more space than they previously had and more opportunities for creative staging. Also vastly improved lobby, concessions, and bathroom areas.

We saw a great play "The Agitators". A story revolving around the friendship of Frederick Douglass and Susan B. Anthony. It's a very dynamic two actor performance. Go see it if you can. The small theater has comfortable seating with a very good view of the stage, even in the second from the top row. A special rotating stage was built and used for this production.

New beautiful space on the Pedmall of downtown Iowa City. Enter on ground floor. Take stairs or large elevator to third floor. The seating was comfortable and the centered stage viewable from every seat. Open bar and snack area with seating for about 50 and bathrooms just outside the stage area. Vaccination protocol followed.
We thoroughly enjoyed the night out. A group of us went to see The Niceties by Eleanor Burgess...phenomenal job! With a cabaret to follow. So nice to get out.

Wow! I'm very surprised that there aren't many reviews on this place. Just finished watching Black and Blue at the theater and I loved it. Barrington Vaxter masterfully portrayed Marcus, a nervous black man from the South side of Chicago that was traumatized by a past encounter with the Chicago PD. All of the performers were amazing and the set was beautiful, I felt like I was there. The play depicted both sides of the issues that are all too present today with the Black Lives Matter movement. I feel enlightened, great job Riverside Theater and all who were involved!
