We have been fostering a dog through Saginaw County Animal Shelter for several months, and while our overall experience has been mostly positive, the communication with the shelter has been incredibly frustrating.

Any time we’ve needed information, it has felt like pulling teeth to get a response. On multiple occasions, we were given incorrect information, which led to unnecessary stress and, unfortunately, poor treatment from the staff because of it. While most of the staff members have been pleasant and clearly care about the animals, the secretary has been consistently rude and unhelpful.

Fostering has been a rewarding experience, and we’re grateful for the opportunity to help a dog in need, but the shelter’s lack of communication and poor customer service have made the process far more difficult than it should be. If they could improve in this area, it would make a huge difference for both fosters and adopters.

An investigation needs done on the Director and the Administrator. They left a dog for 3 months with a broken leg, then asked for funds 3 months later. Excuses and excuses. What policies do you have in place to check an animal over when you do intake? There should never be an animal sitting for 3 months with a broken bone before you even start asking for funds. They were issued a warning for allowing staff to euthanize animals without the 16 hours of training. Rachel and Mary have no idea what they are doing and we need someone to run this place with the animals best interest. Not their political views and small minds. Dr. Kline thank you for reporting this facility to hold them to higher standards. It’s sad all the animals have to suffer because of these two. My email was left unanswered so I emailed the mayor and the news to get answers. Mary won’t answer questions in a email so I offered to do a face to face meeting and she stopped responding. That’s the people running this place.

Recently adopted a shelter cat from here, the staff were very friendly and knowledgeable on the health of the animals, they really have a good heart in terms of determining if the pet is going to a right home and your capable of caring for it! They all do their bests to make sure each of these animals have a chance of a good life with socialization and good health care for the animals! I was so worried and sad about visiting because I was concerned with the care of the pets but all my worries are gone after visiting, the kennels and cages were clean and tidy, they make sure health issues are addressed on the animals, honestly this place is a god send for our furry friends and family, If I had a million dollars I would donate half of it just to make sure this dream of a shelter and its staff can keep doing what they are doing!

Officers act like power hungry martinets. They think the uniform gives them the power of God to destroy the interior of your house and do as they choose with your life.

I was super impressed with the facility when I went in to check out some pups. It's clean, spacious, and the staff are very nice and know their pups well. I met with Bourbon, now known as Tux, and had to bring the kids back to meet him. They adored him as much as I did! He loves his new family and we love him. Thank you so much SCAC for taking good care of our boy before we got him.

Animal Control Officer Balderstone and Sage have been very good and helpful to me and my neighbors. They've been very good to us!

There were 3 ladies that came out and were very nice I lost my dog and they got her and took very good care of her I appreciate them so much. Very lovely people.

Inhumane and cruel, we adopted a cat who when we recieved was covered in its on stooland had uncontrollable diareah, she shelter agreed to have the vet see her so we took the cat back for a week then when we retrieved the cat they claimed the cat hadent deficated but when we got her back the cat was covered in even more stool completely matted to her fur so we had to get her hair cut, now they have the cat again and instead of updating us they blocked out nunbers and proceed to say we surrendered the cat even though we never signed anything to relinquish her in fact just got the tracking information in our mail a couple days ago, shady cruel shelter.
