We adopted our little guy about a month and a half ago from Second City and had a great experience. Our new pup is a ball of joy who loves people and playing with everyone. They're very thorough with their process and making sure the dogs are going to good homes. All the volunteers we worked with were incredibly pleasant and nice to talk with when learning about the pups. I highly recommend this rescue if you're looking to expand your family!

My experience was several years ago (2013), before they acquired their current adoption facility. At the time I adopted my dog Malcolm, I was working as their webmaster. My experience is not quite the typical experience due to my prior special volunteer relationship with them. I knew I wanted a dog, and saw they needed the help, so I volunteered.

I applied for 1 dog initially, but I was turned down. They knew my work situation and knew a younger dog was bound to get in trouble while I was away in downtown Chicago working. They found me Malcolm down in Oklahoma after a tornado ripped up the area. He was an older dog who never learned to love toys, but I still loved my time with him. Love ya Malcolm, RIP

I have nothing but positive things to say about our experience with Second City K9 rescue. I first heard about them through my step-daughter, who visited for a Girl Scout troop outing years ago.

As a family, we had been talking about adopting a dog and finally had the chance to pull the trigger. Special shout out to Annette and Barb who were so thoughtful and caring last Saturday at the PetSmart adoption event in Schaumburg.

I also want to recognize Pattie for her timely responses last week and being the best foster mom for our girl. The jury is still out on her forever name (we adopted her as Abbie) but we’re so grateful to be her forever home.

Thank you SCCR for all you do for these animals.

Not such a great experience here. To be judged and not beable to adopt a puppy because my husband and I have to work to provide for our family seems pretty harsh. Broke my kids heart after meeting a few of their pups. Lady even said what a great sign it was on how we cared for our previous pups who were 16 years old when they passed. I don't believe you all should have such strict rules in adopting a puppy who would have a wonderful loving home with a family who truly loves animals. I understand the need to look into families and where the puppies are placed. But to be denied because we work from 7 to 230 was pretty insulting and hurtful.

SCCR works so hard to do right by the dogs and puppies. They treat the animals with love like they are one of the family. They strive to find a loving home for every dog. I started as a foster mom and adopted one of my fosters. I recommend them to anyone looking for a dog.

Worst experience here. Sent email regarding adopting a dog. As well as applied. Received email very quickly and very friendly. My children and I decided to go into the shelter to see if we could meet some dogs and see what fits our home. Upon arriving the lady inside stopped my children 18 and 2 and said “this dog doesn’t want you to pet him” reminder my kids were just starting to walk through the door not even reached out yet to touch the dog. As I came in after she said the same smirky remark to me “this dog doesn’t want you to touch him!” I told her no worries did plan on it. I explained my interest in adopting and she explained if you want to see a dog schedule an appointment or go to the dog show. I told her the dog we r interested in meeting and she said that dog won’t be at the show and I don’t even know if the foster family is available to show her. I told her ok when is a good time. She said I will see and email u back but other people r interested too n I have to see what is fit for her. I felt super judged and uncomfortable. I went to the dog show and my kids fell in love with a dog. They told me I had to email that same lady back and tell her I’m interested in this dog. I emailed her n she quickly responded “we don’t have a dog by that name pick another dog!” We picked another dog that says online on THEIR sit “good with Children” told her we were interested and quickly got a response. “That dog can’t be around kids”. DO NOT COME HERE!!!!!!!! Super rude

SCCR is a great rescue!!! I have adopted two dogs from them and have volunteered in various roles. What I think is amazing, is the support they give whether you are a new adopter or volunteer. Great people, Amazing dogs!!
