We have been going to The Civic for years. All of the shows have been great. My children have done classes here years ago, which were amazing. My son has participated in the Summer Academy shows. All staff are always polite and helpful and we're happy to support local theater.

I took my kid (17 years young) to Heathers the Musical on the 19th of July. We bought these tickets well in advance of the show and we were super excited that the show was being performed within a days drive of home. We live in Wenatchee, and despite being aware of some cool things around our state we were not yet aware of the Spokane Civic Theater. TBH when I bought the tickets for their 17th birthday, we assumed this was a traveling show, because the content of the production and we had seen the West Side production and again, we were not yet aware of just how good the Spokane Civic Theater productions are.

During the first two songs Beautiful & Candy Shop it started to become clear that this was going to be a great show. The harmonies were tight, The Heathers were scintillating! The chorus singers were pitch perfect and despite being strong singers they were still blended and didn’t out sing/perform the leads.
I am a musician and performer. In my past I have played in musicals and performed the roles of Alfred P Doolittle, The Artful Dodger, pit orchestras, chorus parts, string ensembles, and even rock bands. Those memories I cherish and I revisit often and after watching this show I am giving serious thought to trying out in a community production in Wenatchee, but I must say that I wish I lived closer to Spokane because I could tell that everyone was having a terrific time and that is in part what this is all about. For me performing for an audience is about invoking an emotional response, even if from only 1 person it makes every hour of rehearsal worth it. If you can do this you have created a unique shared experience that can last for decades inside the hearts of those so blessed to experience it. The cast of Heathers the Musical made me feel and laugh and I admit I even teared up at the end. The melodies and harmonies were sung with such passion and connection between the singers and the audience that I had no choice but to submit. The songs: 17, I Am Damaged, were so good and the Heathers killed it in Candy Store also Martha’s song, Kindergarten’s Boyfriend was sung so beautifully. I just can’t say enough about the quality of the performances and the talents of the cast.

I grew up with this movie being a big part of my early teenage years and I think some of those memories brought these feelings to the surface. Also seeing this with my youngest and his bestie who aren’t much older than I was when I first saw it certainly played a part. I am so happy that we were able to experience this show in this venue with The Spokane Civic Theater, the nations oldest community theater. I will end my gushing by saying congratulations and bravo to the cast, crew, the directors and producers and last but not least the pit players who did a great job of filling the room at the right time and letting the stars shine too. If you are on the fence about seeing this show I hope my review gets you to buy tickets for you and your friend’s family or maybe you bring a stranger. No rules against it and it could become a thing.
