For movie lovers, this place is as close as we can get to heaven. The Stanford Theater is one of my favorite places on the planet - as soon as you get to the box office you’re going back in time. $7 for a double feature! $1 for a small popcorn! The theater has been beautifully restored with so many classic posters hung on the wall. And the music! Between the second and third showings of the night, an organ player rises through the stage and plays through the intermission. I love this place and I’m so grateful for it.

This theater is great and is what is missing from places like SF where real estate pressures have driven out repertory theaters like this. We saw one old movie from the minelli series. It was only $7 for the movie! I think it must be supported by the Packard family. Otherwise the prices would be higher. You can also check out all the great food and stores in the neighborhood before or after the show. Also check out the architecture. It's quite beautiful and there is a little space where they have old movie posters and exhibits if you are a fan of that kind of thing.

Great experience. I felt like I had travelled in time while watching black and white movies during the Noir Film festival.

The Stanford Theatre Foundation is dedicated to bringing back the authentic movie-going experience of Hollywood's Golden Age. Classic Hollywood directors never intended you to watch their pictures on a video screen in your living room (or while jogging). The magic of the movies depends on a larger-than-life image and the shared reactions of a large audience.

The Stanford Theatre first opened in 1925, and it served for decades as Palo Alto's premier movie house. Most classic films played here on their initial Palo Alto engagements.

The Stanford Theatre first opened in 1925, and it served for decades as Palo Alto's premier movie house.

In 1987, after a blockbuster Fred Astaire Film Festival, the David and Lucile Packard Foundation bought the theatre and restored it to its original splendor. It is now owned and operated by the non-profit Stanford Theatre Foundation, presenting classic Hollywood films.

The renovated Stanford Theatre quickly became America's most popular place to watch classic Hollywood movies. More people saw Casablanca here on its 50th anniversary in 1992 than anywhere else in America.

Most classic films played here on their initial Palo Alto engagement. The following schedules were compiled from ads in the Palo Alto Times.
