Unbelievably terrible place. Reached out to trainer Ashlyn Cohill at the recommendation of another AKC-certified trainer. I was very clear in my email correspondance that I was looking for someone to work with me and my Yorkie towards a Good Canine Citizen certification. I am a hospice volunteer and I was told that I would be allowed to have my dog accompany me on patient visits if she had this certification. We had different understandings of the term “evaluation” because when I showed up, she was ready to test my dog. I was 10 minutes late and took full accountability and shared that the directions were obscure (you literally have to go around to the back of the building past a bunch of dumpsters to find a small door with the numbers 158 in very small print). Instead of welcoming us to the space, she immediately criticized the leash I was using for my dog. My dog tends to be nervous in situations with other dogs because of an incident she had when she was younger. Instead of allowing me to give this context and share some of my pup’s quirks, she immediately gave us both the rudest face, clearly skeptical of my dog’s ability. I interrupted her, calling attention to her skepticism and further clarifying that I was looking for a trainer to help with her confidence building SO THAT she would be able to eventually take this test. She said that she was unsure if my dog would be a good therapy dog. I clarified again that therapy certification was NOT what we were looking for. When I told her about my volunteer requirement, she said she had never heard of that before. (Why would I lie about the requirements?) She continued to have a terrible attitude, making a fuss about how my dog couldn’t have the treats they had because of her dietary restrictions. She also made several comments about the cost of training, making it seem like it was something I couldn’t afford. She did not even try to patiently interact with or make my pup comfortable in the space, and even remarked at how “easy” this environment should be for her. I even asked, if that was the case, why would I even want to work with a trainer? The facility was also disgusting and the dogs who were there looked like they hadn’t been attended to or well-taken care of. They also had not shoveled well and the stairs leading up to the door had a huge patch of ice near them…hoping no future clients slip and fall. Absolutely horrendous experience. Would not recommend to anyone seeking a patient, compassionate, and understanding dog trainer.

I didn’t want to write a review, but after several weeks I feel that I need to. I took my dog to animal house for a two week boot camp. During the time I had to constantly check in to see if my pup was doing alright. Once my pups boot camp was completed, I arrived to see that his cheek was pretty badly bit. The trainer said “ oh it was nothing serious, but we took care of it. (Not a veterinarian). I had to take him to the vet because I felt his bite marks he received were not healed . We were able to get antibiotics( that animal house reimbursed), but my dog has getting in several alterations since then. He has never had this issue and I feel every time I bring him to the dog park, he’s getting into a scuffle. I feel my dog is suffering something deep because of the bite marks and now I have to figure out how to get him back on track. Word to the wise, never take your animal here.

We've had nothing but excellent experiences boarding our dog at Animals House. Staff has always taken excellent care of her and we've always picked her up happy and healthy. They've even been kind enough to accommodate last minute boarding requests when we've had family emergencies come up. We also did a puppy training class here and enjoyed it.

Took my sweet 9-month-old puppy to the two week boarding/training camp at The Animals House. I was immediately concerned when I walked in and saw how filthy the bird’s cage was in the front reception area. And then in the back, it was packed—close to 50 dogs in three enclosed areas, with minimal supervision from the staff the owner employs. But I talked to the owner (Kathy) and was assured that she had been in this business for 25 years and had great ratings online. We left our pup there, and were very clear that we wanted frequent updates on how it was going, because our dog has major anxiety and we were very worried. Immediately, multiple days of radio silence. I wrote an email and was blown off. Finally, get some photos and my dog looks awful. We were on the other side of the country so nothing we could do. My dog ended up catching bronchopneumonia from another dog due to poor sanitary conditions, and The Animals House waited multiple days to take her in to the hospital literally next door to the boarding location. We get in there and the vet doctor told us that if she had been in there a day later she could have stopped breathing and died. We ended up needing to use a nebulizer on her for three separate times each day, give her steroid injections, and have her on antibiotics for five weeks. Her lungs still haven’t recovered. The worst part: Kathy lied, telling us that she’d never had a dog get sick like this in her 25 years of business. Meanwhile, the animal hospital told us they had had three other dogs from the Animal House in there that week, all with the same pneumonia. And that they would never bring their own pets in there because of all the injuries and illnesses they’ve seen other dogs get there. Now, almost six months later, our dog has awful separation anxiety, we still can’t take her for the same hikes or long walks because of her lung capacity, and we’re terrified to leave her at any other facility overnight. The only silver lining: The Animals House paid the over $3,000 vet bills, but aparently, they haven’t paid the bills for many other pets they got sick. Should have trusted my gut—25 years of experience means nothing if you can’t keep four-legged members of people’s families safe. Photos of our sick puppy and disgusting bed we received back from Animals House, covered in multiple days of mold and snot.

After reading all the positive reviews we brought our dog here for a week as we went on vacation. Very disappointed with her condition upon picking her up. 1) she was absolutely filthy (normal grime from playing with other dogs and her white coat, but also poop dried to her butt and obvious signs of sleeping in a dirty bed/kennel) - she couldn’t have a bath while there due to medicine in her ear, but you could have wiped her down. 2) gashes on her face from “rough play” and “kennel nose”. She’s a young dog, so I can understand the rough play injuries, but again, you knew we were coming to pick her up today at least attempt to clean her up and there was no advanced notification that our dog was injured. 3) limping on her front left paw. Might be a slight injury, but nonetheless all of the factors above are requiring that I take my business elsewhere going forward. It’s a hike, but Cavalier Kennels in Front Royal will treat your dogs better and I only wish they weren’t booked up when we tried to get her in there this year.

I would bring my dog here all the time for daycare and boarding. I noticed some overcharging here and there but pushed it aside. I dropped my dog off right before closing last night for boarding. I pick her up this morning at 8/9ish bc of the hours of operation. They tried charging me 2 daycare days and a boarding night. I was confused and confirmed the boarding charge but not the others. The girl asked if I took care of my dog before dropping her off (like if I walked and fed her which I did) and that was her explanation as to the charges of daycare. I get it but when I got my dog food back it was filled, untouched. It’s in an rezip baggie and my dog is a pit mix and eats 2 cups per meal. If yall fed her to charge me the daycare fees then why is her food bag filled and as I left it? Luckily for me she took the charges off but she gave me a nasty attitude the whole interaction.

My dog absolutely LOVES going here for daycare. He's there 5 days a week so I don't have to worry about him being in a crate all day. He's been going there since he was 12 weeks old and I wouldn't trust Rooney anywhere else. He also takes all of his puppy classes there so it's super convenient. The staff are all wonderful and truly care about my dog.
