We were staying about 30 minutes from Berea and decided to spend Small Business Saturday exploring the town. This is one of the most quaint bookstores I've been in. It was laid out perfectly, not overweight stimulating/congested with products and even a sweet kitty. A must stop to visit if in the area.

This amazing little local bookstore is tucked away in a magical corner of downtown Berea. Even before I walked inside, I could tell it was going to be an amazing visit! They had the exact book I was looking for, but I was impressed by their collection of local Kentucky authors! Some of the books were even signed! (Note to self: must go back and purchase these!) They also had other items such as puzzles, tote bags, journals, even socks! The particular day I went in, there was even an artist working on pieces, so that was an added bonus. The staff were super nice, too! This has definitely become my favorite local bookstore and I will absolutely be back!

The Taleless Dog is a fantastic local bookstore with owners who really care about supporting and connecting with their local community. Along with a great selection of books (of course!), in the bookstore you can also browse unique, local art, fun socks and greeting cards, amazing mugs in several colors, games & puzzles, Blackwing pencils, and more! It’s a nice local spot to stop by and browse, and make sure to keep an eye out (or sign up for their newsletter!) for upcoming events.
One of my favorite events at the bookstore last year was a combined event with the local hospice organization, hosting an art exhibit in the space for an local man who was in hospice and had all kinds of amazing artwork that he had never been able to share with others in a public setting like that. It was just amazing to see how the community turned out to support the event, and I appreciated the bookstore’s owners Susan and Clark offering to host the event in their space- it was a perfect night! The outside courtyard space is also so picturesque with lights hung across, and especially in nice weather it can be a lovely spot to sit and read at one of the tables & maybe sip some local coffee.
Oh, and one final perk of visiting the store is that pretty often, you’ll get to see the super sweet gray tail-less cat Nora just hanging out around the bookstore somewhere… and if you’re lucky, she might even let ya sneak a little ear scratch, or pet her for a minute, too. 🙂

First, we loved the name, play in words, and that it was named after the owner's actual "tailless" dog. We have one ourselves so we were drawn by the name. Secondly, little bookshops are few and far between, and in this digital age, we wanted to support them. Thirdly, it's just as charming as can be, comfortable and welcoming. Just sit and peruse the great selection of books. And finally, the tailless cat that resides there is just icing on the cake.

There are also exciting books for children such as 'The Wonders of the Universe' - a colorfully illustrated book that is sure to spark your child's vivid imagination.
