Dog Island is a spacious, general-use dog park with a separate, smaller area at the southeast end specifically for small or shy dogs. It’s a popular spot, and parking is usually ample—unless there’s an event at the nearby park, which can often limit parking, especially during the summer months.

Each entrance features double gates waste bags. Portable toilets are available just outside the park entrances, but there are also permanent restrooms a short walk away near the playground.

During the winter months, heavy use combined with precipitation often leaves the turf muddy and damaged. Many locals opt to take their dogs to the large, open field at Ann Morrison Park instead. This field, located southeast of the Ann Morrison Fountain, is designated for off-leash use during winter only. It's a great oopt, as long as your dog isn't an escape artist, as it helps preserve the turf at Dog Island during the vulnerable months.

The pond at Dog Island is typically drained during the winter and refilled in the spring, though I'm not sure if the exact schedule. The natural water features make this a popular spot for ducks and geese, so if you or your dog have issues with the birds—or the mess they leave behind—this might not be the best choice for you.

Maybe my favorite dog park in the US. Always bustling with dogs of all sizes. Different play areas, shade, sun, everything your dog might need. Love that the doggoes have the whole island!

This dog park is by far the biggest and the best dog park I have been to. I did give it 4 stars because I think the city should put in a couple of fountains in the water. The still water can breed mosquitoes, the dogs do drink from that water even when trying to deter them from doing so. I. Addition, a lot of dog owners do not pick up after their dogs. There are several places to grab a dog bag and lots of trash cans. The park has benches and covered areas for people to sit and enjoy watching their dogs. There are several water landings where dogs could jump into the water or wade in the shallow area. The park is amazing. I just wish citizens of Boise would be more responsible for cleaning up after their pets. I suggest this park for all size dogs. There is even a separate park that is fenced off so that smaller dogs or not so social dogs can still enjoy being off leash. I suggest you bring your pups but be sure to clean up after them.

I heard a lot of good things about this place being a “huge park” for dogs. But it’s not that big. I have been to a bigger one before. It is a decent size for a fenced in dog park. It is very dirty because of al the ducks and goose and dog poop. It’s a nice place for dogs to socialize but it is very dirty. Bring your own water and some wipes. Lots of wipes.

Took Gimli to Dog Island for the second time and he had a blast! Definitely loving his best life! Great place for social dogs, ? but be warned if you have a water dog they will definitely end up soggy at some point!

HUGE park with a moat for dogs to swim in. However, it is possible for the water dogs to escape by swimming to the other side since there is only fencing at the 2 entrances, but the ditch is pretty wide, so if you have a good eye on your dog, it's fine. It is popular, so there are a lot of friendly dogs to play with and so much room for them to sprint. They do have a smaller section for the shy dogs and smaller dogs to play in. There are multiple trees, benches, and parking options.

This was a cool dog park with lots of water access. We did see some interesting things, such as people dunking their dogs in the water and someone driving their toy car around. It would also be cool if the access to the water was more gradual as opposed to a drop off in several places.

Fantastic dog park with plenty of parking. It’s a big grassy park bordered by water all around, with a double gate system to keep our pooches safely on the island. Well worth the short drive off the highway when you’re on a long road trip. Nice, responsible dog people with plenty of bags and trash cans.
