Beautiful little plaza with European style feel
Very peaceful and relaxing to sit by the fountain and the history with Abraham Lincoln makes it special. There are some great little restaurants in this small town
Downtown by the square is worth a walk through. Hiking 15 minutes away at the state parks. This is definitely an area worth visiting!!

Very pretty! Especially in the summer when it's hot and they have the fountain on it is very cool and calming! Definitely worth a visit

Wow! What a cool town. And an historic one at that! Ottawa, Illinois was first of 7 towns where Abraham Lincoln and Stephen Douglas held Senate seat debates in 1858. Although the Republican challenger, Lincoln (back when Republicans were today's Democrats) would lose the race for the Senate seat, Ottawa has wonderfully commemorated the August 21, 1858 event.

I would encourage anyone with a taste for such history to visit Ottawa. And to remember... especially today, and in the words of a VERY wise man, 'that “A house divided against itself cannot stand”'.

Very interesting square where the Lincoln - Douglas debates occurred in Ottawa, IL. The space has many shade trees and walkways are lined with flags. One area has names of Ottawa citizens who lost their lives fighting wars throughout history. There picnic tables, iron benches, and walkways used by many exercising their dogs.

If you're visiting then make sure to come to the park. There's a statue of the Lincoln douglas debate. There's also live music and just events that happen occasionally. We caught a live band. There are benches for food or games. Finally there's so much easy parking, shopping, and even a theater nearby.
